How Ad-Aware Pro 2009 Stacks Up As An Anti-Malware Tool

Posted in Communications, Computers, Home And Family, Society, Technology

Ad-Aware Pro 2009 is the latest addition to the family of security products that Lavasoft creates. Ad-Aware has a long history of shielding computers from obscene hackers and programs that could cause irreversible damage to both one’s computer and their very identity or life in the process.

The Pro version of Ad-Aware has some benefits over other versions, but mostly the differences are going to be useful for administrators and the technology-oriented personalities. Things such as a command line interface and special networking scanning tools would be of good use to a business environment, but less likely to be used by the average computer owner.

The marketing some websites make use of today is horrendous. Pop-up advertisements are a good example of such an annoyance, and thankfully Ad-Aware Pro is able to get rid of them without any further cost to the software owner. The built in pop-up blocker has performed quite well in tests; getting rid of the advertisements and of course allowing popup applications that weren’t ads.

Ad-Aware Pro 2009 comes with a real-time protection feature that can stop spy-ware and malware from installing itself as soon as it is spotted. That way you won’t have to focus on fixing your computer after an attack, but rather you can rest easy knowing that Ad-Aware will catch most types of malware before they are even able to install and infect your computer. As malware definitions increase, so too does your security.

So far the general perception of Ad-Aware Pro has been good. Nothing is perfect, and while Ad-Aware has some great selling points it also has some areas it could improve on. One instance is with the technical support. Lavasoft did a great job on providing documentation, but they skipped out on hiring employees to provide the technical support customers need. Getting technical support is still possible, just expect your questions to be answered slower than normal.

There are many security companies to browse before you make a decision. Other products such as those from Symantec or Norton also have worthy products to consider. Don’t judge a product on its price alone, since the competition is fierce and you will find that the prices of competitors are much lower. Some programs can even be found free online that claim to do just as good of a job at computer security as paid alternatives do.

Closing Comments

The price you pay for a security program doesn’t have to be substantial. Some online services allow you to quickly compare prices and features, so that you may quickly compare and contrast products for what you need specifically.
